Meet the Doctor

Michael E. Jonassen, O.D.

Dr. Jonassen earned his B.S. in Visual Science and Doctorate from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He completed an internship at the Family Eye Clinic at Fort Sheridan Army Base in Illinois. Dr. Jonassen has continued his education by attending yearly seminars and workshops. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association. He joined his fathers’ optometric practice in l986, taking over in 1992 and expanded and renamed the practice Oceana Eyecare in 1994. Dr. Jonassen enjoys helping solve his patients’ vision problems and spending the time necessary to accomplish that. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Hart and the Lions Club of Hart. He is also a member of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area Chamber of Commerce and the Pentwater Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Jonassen lives in Mears and enjoys time with his family. He also enjoys traveling, sailing, swimming, music and reading.


Our Staff

Staff members at Oceana Eyecare are well trained in their field of expertise and attend continuing education classes throughout the year. This creates an office culture designed for excellent patient care and personalized service.

Sarah Sandoval

Sarah has been with Oceana Eyecare since 2007. She graduated from Baker College with a B.S. in Interior Design. She is our frame specialist for the office. Sarah has a strong sense of style and uses her education to help our patients choose eyewear that is both functional and stylish for them. Sarah dispenses new eyewear, does repairs and helps with marketing for the practice. She lives in Hart with her husband and four children. She enjoys music, volunteering at church and school, and spending time with her family.

Cindi Carlson

Cindi graduated from West Shore Community College with an A.A. degree in Child Development. Cindi
comes to us with over 28 years of experience working with young children and their families in Oceana County. She schedules appointments, prepares charts for the next day and maintains our social media presence. Cindi lives in Mears with her husband. She enjoys gardening, fishing, canoeing and spending time with her family.
